Socialization Assessment

The socialization assessment serves to provide a comprehensive understanding of your dog's behavior during a typical walk. During this assessment, I will assess:

Temperament: Is your dog generally timid, anxious, overexcited, or confident? How does this affect their behavior outside of the home?

Leash Skills: How comfortable is your dog walking on a leash? Do they pull, resist, get easily distracted, or exhibit reactivity? What is their sensitivity level to leash pressure and their familiarity with it?

Social Skills: How at ease is your dog with people, places, other animals, and various objects?

Following the assessment, I will determine whether your dog is prepared to participate in pack walks or if we should proceed with training walks to address any challenges they may be facing.

What is a structured walk, and why is it important?

A structured walk is when your dog is able to walk calmly beside or behind you with a relaxed
leash. They are engaged with you and are not focused on common distractions. This type of
walk provides the exercise of a regular walk but with a much higher level of mental stimulation.

What are the benefits of a pack walk?

There are so many benefits to a pack walk!

It is a great opportunity for your dog to practice calm socialization with other dogs, they learn that being around other dogs doesn’t always mean excited play time and that’s okay!

How will pack walks impact my dog's behaviour?

By participating in pack walks, your dog will have the perfect opportunity to practice impulse control and spatial awareness. For example, if none of their buddies are reacting to distractions across the road, your dog will eventually learn to remain calm and focused as well. This translates to improved self-control, reduced reactivity, and a more balanced and well-behaved demeanor overall.

How do the benefits of pack walks differ from classes?

Dogs naturally learn much more quickly from other dogs than they do from people. While this
can work against us in some situations, we can also use it to our advantage. By surrounding
your dog with other well behaved, balanced buddies, they will gain confidence in themselves
and in their good behaviours.
